Historical Locks

by Derek Mercer - 23:41 on 14 May 2023

At Lockkeys Locksmith Services we enjoy history especially when it concerns lock related subjects, so on a recent visit to Bygone Times the antiques and collectable warehouse near Chorley Lancashire I couldnt resist buying this brass d-ring and padlock. These d-rings were used by our armed forces to secure the top of a kit bag to help prevent pilfering from the kit bag. With this d-ring being made of brass it would have been made prior to world war 2 because at the outbreak of war brass was a comodity that was used for making shell cases etc so these were then made of other cheaper metals. The padlock is not of a military type as there is no military markings on the lock and neither is there any manufacturers make on the padlock so I can only assume that the lock is from after world war two. What fascinates me about the d-ring is that it as survived and if only it could speak to tell us who it belonged to and were it went on its travels.
