Church Box Locks

Box locks often found on church doors are so called because the lock mechanism is set inside a wooden box. The security of the lock is the pattern or ward inside the lock which prevents the incorrect key from fitting the pattern and opening the lock. This is why church keys are often uniquely shaped.
