Dont get your pocket picked by rogue lockmiths

Unfortunately like many other trades their are rogue locksmiths and this blog post is about how you can avoid them.

Unfortunately their is no regulation or licensing of locksmiths in the UK and some unscrupulous individuals take advantage of this to rip off customers, so how can you protect yourself ?

First of all I recommend dealing with a local locksmith in St Helens and you will know this simply by the accent of the person answering the phone and asking if they charge a call out fee ? Most local locksmiths will not charge a call out fee.

Secondly most independent locksmiths will either answer the phone themselves or their wife or partner might answer the phone. They should ask you a few questions and based around your answers should be able to provide you with an idea of what the problem is and a quote how much it should cost to fix.

Thirdly if you agree to the quote try and get someone else with you to witness the arrival of the locksmith and after discussing the problem with them double check that the price is as quoted before letting any work commence. Its been known that rogue locksmiths initially quote a small price then bump it up after work is commenced/finished.

Fourthly always get a reciept from the locksmith that shows their number office address and costs just in case you need to contact them at a later date.

At Lockkeys Locksmiths St Helens we have been trading since 2009 and are members of the St Helens Trader Register which is run by the council trading standards department. Being a member means that we promise to abide with fair trading.
